Reporting to the Director of Sales/Director of Catering, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing and increasing catering sales within the Madison area. More specifically, the Manager will be responsible for generating and booking a high volume of business functions of all types through intensive prospecting, in-direct leads, client referrals, community participation, etc. The Business Development Manager will solicit sales through assigned accounts, potential new accounts, and participation in community organizations, which represent opportunities for new business.

 

Specific responsibilities, at a minimum, will include:

  • Responsible for promoting and selling The Edgewater catering and event spaces to new and existing customers
  • Collaborate well with others and recognize the importance of being a part of a team, motivated and ready to have fun and succeed with their team members.
  • Perform other work that furthers individual outside sales efforts including, for example:
    • Follow-up communication via telephone and written materials
    • Plan and prepare for outside sales calls
    • Prepare and analyze sales reports
    • Prepare proposals and other individual marketing and sales materials
    • Provide tours of event spaces and hotel facilities
  • Maintain organized group files and notes
  • Timely response to client and guest requests; the expected response time is one business day or less
  • Establish follow-up communication on all finalized sales contracts and ensure the seamless transition from sales to execution phase of events
  • Ensure communication is conveyed to all appropriate areas within the Hotel and resolves any outstanding issues or problems to ensure a quality product delivery and guest satisfaction

Job Requirements:

  • Combined 2+ year's previous hotel and/or sales experience
  • High School diploma required
  • Excellent personal computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) software and at least one (1) year experience with Delphi, Opera and/or comparable convention management software
  • Possess above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle difficult situations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to work nights/weekends as needed
  • Use analytical skills for measuring business potential and value to the hotel
  • Interact with all levels of customers and hotel management
  • Other duties as assigned.
